Red Light Therapy

Specific wavelengths of light that penetrate your skin to boost collagen, reduce inflammation, and speed up recovery. No UV. No downtime. Just results your cells can use.

The Science in Plain English

How Red Light Therapy Works

Your cells have tiny power plants called mitochondria. They produce ATP, which is the energy your body uses to repair tissue, build collagen, reduce inflammation, and recover from exercise. As you age, your mitochondria slow down. They produce less energy. Your skin loses elasticity. Recovery takes longer. Inflammation lingers.

Red light therapy sends specific wavelengths of light (red at 630-660nm and near-infrared at 810-850nm) through your skin and into those mitochondria. The light gives them a direct energy boost. Your cells produce more ATP, and your body uses that extra energy to do what it already knows how to do, just faster and better.

There is no UV exposure. No burning. No tanning. The treatment is FDA-cleared, painless, and works on all skin types. You sit or lie down, the light does its work, and you leave feeling the same or better than when you walked in. The real results build over consistent sessions as your cells accumulate the benefits.

What Red Light Therapy Does

The Benefits Build Over Time

Each session adds to the last. Here is what consistent red light therapy does for your body.

Collagen Production
Red light stimulates fibroblasts in your skin to produce more collagen. Collagen is the protein that keeps skin firm, plump, and elastic. As production increases, fine lines soften and skin texture improves. This is the benefit most clients notice first.
🌱
Skin Elasticity and Tone
Beyond collagen, red light improves overall skin quality. Pores appear smaller. Skin looks more even. The dull, tired look that comes with age, stress, and lack of sleep starts to clear. Your skin gets a natural glow that has nothing to do with makeup.
🔥
Reduced Inflammation
Near-infrared light penetrates deeper than red light and reaches muscle tissue, joints, and tendons. It reduces inflammation at the cellular level, which helps with joint stiffness, chronic pain, and the general inflammation that builds up from daily stress.
Faster Muscle Recovery
After a reformer class, your muscles need time to repair. Red light therapy speeds up that repair process by increasing blood flow and ATP production in the damaged tissue. Soreness decreases. Recovery time shortens. Your next class feels better.
💧
Improved Circulation
Red light stimulates the formation of new capillaries, which improves blood flow to treated areas. Better circulation means more oxygen and nutrients reach your skin and muscles, and waste products are removed more efficiently.
🩹
Scar and Stretch Mark Reduction
The increased collagen production and cellular turnover from red light therapy can reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks over time. The tissue remodels more effectively when your cells have the energy to do the repair work.

What to Expect

What a Red Light Session Looks Like

There is nothing complicated about a red light therapy session. You show up, you sit or lie down, and the light does the work.

15 to 20 Minutes Per Session
Each session is short. You position yourself in front of the light panel and let it work. Some clients read, some close their eyes and relax, some just sit with their thoughts. The light does its job regardless of what you do during the session.
No Pain, No Heat, No UV
You may feel a gentle warmth, but there is no burning, no discomfort, and no UV exposure. This is not a tanning bed. The wavelengths are specifically chosen to penetrate your skin without damaging it. Safe for all skin types including sensitive skin.
Face, Body, or Both
Red light can be applied to your face for skin rejuvenation, your body for muscle recovery and inflammation, or both. If you are using it after a Pilates class, targeting sore muscle groups is a common approach.
No Downtime
You walk out the same way you walked in. There is no redness, no peeling, no recovery period. You can do red light therapy before or after a Pilates class, during a lunch break, or on its own. It fits into your schedule without disrupting anything.

Better Together

Why Pilates Clients Add Red Light Therapy

Your reformer class breaks down muscle fibers so they rebuild stronger. That rebuilding process requires cellular energy. Red light therapy gives your cells more of it. The math is simple: more energy for repair means faster recovery, less soreness, and better results from every class.

Clients who do red light after their reformer session consistently report that they feel less sore the next day and can push harder in their next class. Over time, the reduced inflammation also helps with joint stiffness, which is particularly valuable for clients dealing with arthritis or chronic back pain.

Adding lymphatic drainage alongside red light therapy creates a recovery combination that most studios on Long Island do not offer. That is part of why we built a dedicated wellness room into our studio.

Who This Is For

You Do Not Need a Skin Condition to Benefit

Red light therapy is not a medical treatment. It is a wellness tool that helps your body do what it already does, just more efficiently. That said, certain people see the biggest benefits.

Clients in their 40s and 50s who notice their skin losing firmness and elasticity. People dealing with chronic inflammation in their joints or muscles. Athletes and Pilates clients who want to recover faster between sessions. Anyone with fine lines, uneven skin tone, or dull complexion who wants improvement without injectables or chemicals. Clients recovering from surgery who want to support tissue healing. And people who are simply curious about a non-invasive way to help their body function better.

Many of our senior clients use red light for joint inflammation and skin health. Many of our younger clients use it for post-workout recovery and complexion improvement. The light works the same way regardless of your age or your reason for trying it.

Common Questions

Red Light Therapy FAQ

What is red light therapy?
Red light therapy uses specific wavelengths of light (red at 630-660nm and near-infrared at 810-850nm) to penetrate your skin and stimulate cellular energy production. Your cells absorb the light and produce more ATP, which your body uses for repair, regeneration, and recovery. It is non-invasive, painless, and requires no downtime.
What does red light therapy help with?
