Only 9 Reformers Per Studio

Small Group Pilates Classes

A max of 10 people per class. Your instructor sees every person in the room and corrects form in real time. That is how Pilates should work.

Size Changes Everything

Why Small Classes Get Better Results

There is a reason Art of Pilates has only 9 reformers in each studio. It is the same reason we cap classes at 10 people. When the room is small, your instructor can actually do their job.

In a class of 10, your instructor sees your hips rotate when they should not. They notice when your shoulders creep up. They catch the moment your core stops engaging and the rest of your body starts compensating. Those corrections are what make Pilates work. Without them, you are just going through the motions.

At a franchise studio with 18 or 20 reformers, that kind of attention is physically impossible. One instructor cannot watch 20 bodies at once. Our instructors watch 9 or 10. That math matters more than anything else on this page.

The Real Difference

9 Reformers vs 20. Here Is What Changes.

If you have taken a class at a big franchise, you already know the difference even if you cannot name it. Here is what a smaller room actually gives you.

Your Instructor Knows Your Name
By your second class, your instructor remembers who you are, what level you are at, and what your body needs. In a room of 20, you are anonymous. In a room of 9, you are known.
Form Corrections Happen While You Move
Your instructor does not wait until you finish 10 bad reps to tell you something is off. They adjust you in real time, while the movement is happening. That is the difference between building good habits and reinforcing bad ones.
Modifications Are Personal
If you are dealing with back pain or arthritis, your instructor modifies exercises specifically for your body. In a large class, modifications are announced to the whole room. In a small class, they are given directly to you.
You Never Wait for a Reformer
Every person in the room has their own machine for the full 50 minutes. No sharing, no rotating, no standing around waiting. You walk in, you get on your reformer, and you work.
The Energy Is Different
A small room creates a different atmosphere. People encourage each other. The instructor feeds off the group and the group feeds off the instructor. It feels like you belong, not like you are lost in a warehouse.
Progress Is Tracked Naturally
Because your instructor works with you week after week, they see your progress. They know when you are ready for Level 2 or Level 3. You do not have to ask. They will tell you.

What Is Available

Small Group Classes at Every Level

Every class at Art of Pilates runs in the small group format. There is no large class option because we do not believe large classes deliver results.

New clients start with the orientation class ($31) to learn the reformer and our approach. From there, you progress through Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 with instructor approval at each step. We also run specialty classes including Tower, Cardio Jumpboard, Stretch and Restore, and All Level sessions.

Every single one of those classes is capped at 10 people with 9 reformers. The small group experience is not a premium add-on at Art of Pilates. It is how every class works.

More Than a Class

Small Classes Build Real Community

Something happens when the same 8 or 9 people show up to the same class every Tuesday morning. You start to know each other. You ask about each other's weeks. You push each other during a tough set. The instructor calls you by name before you even set your springs.

Kathy Affrunti built Art of Pilates around this idea. The studio is not a fitness factory. It is a place where people come back because they feel like they belong. A lot of our clients describe it as the best part of their week, and it has nothing to do with how sore they are when they leave.

That sense of connection is something a 20-person class at a franchise cannot replicate. It happens because the room is small enough for everyone to be seen.

Common Questions

Small Group Pilates Classes FAQ

How many people are in a small group Pilates class at Art of Pilates?
Every Art of Pilates studio has only 9 reformers and classes are capped at 10 people. This is significantly smaller than franchise studios that pack 18 to 20 reformers in a room. The small class size means your instructor can see everyone, correct form in real time, and give personal attention to each client.
Why are small group Pilates classes better than large classes?
In a large class, the instructor is outnumbered. They cannot watch 18 or 20 people at once, which means bad form goes uncorrected and clients miss the details that make Pilates work. In a small group of 9 or 10, your instructor sees every movement, adjusts your form as you go, and tailors their attention to what each person needs.
What levels are available in small group Pilates classes?
Small group classes are available at every level: Orientation for new clients, Level 1 for foundations, Level 2 for intermediate, and Level 3 for advanced. Specialty classes like Tower, Cardio Jumpboard, and Stretch and Restore are also offered in the small group format.
Do I get personal attention in a small group class?
Yes. That is the entire point of keeping classes small. Your instructor learns your name, knows your body, and corrects your form while you are moving. If you want even more focused attention, private sessions are also available at all three studios.
How much do small group Pilates classes cost?
Single classes are $40. A 5-class package is $190 ($38 per class) and a 10-class package is $370 ($37 per class). Monthly memberships start at $145 for 4 sessions and go up to $289 for unlimited classes. All packages work at any of the three studio locations.
