The Core of What We Do

What Is Reformer Pilates?

Reformer Pilates is a full body workout performed on a sliding carriage machine called a reformer. Springs create adjustable resistance as you push, pull, and stabilize through controlled movements. Every exercise targets specific muscle groups while engaging your core, improving your posture, and building strength you can feel in your daily life.

At Art of Pilates & Wellness, we use STOTT V2 Max Reformers, which are among the best machines available. The spring system allows your instructor to adjust resistance for your exact level, whether you are in your first month or your fifth year. That kind of precision is what makes the reformer different from any other workout, and what makes it one of the best ways to support body sculpting, posture, and graceful aging at every stage of life.

Why the Reformer Works

What Reformer Pilates Does for Your Body

The reformer is not just another piece of gym equipment. The combination of spring resistance, controlled movement, and body positioning creates results that mat work, weight training, or cardio alone cannot match. Our clients notice changes within their first few weeks.

  • Builds lean muscle tone and body sculpting without adding bulk
  • Strengthens your core from the inside out
  • Corrects posture and spinal alignment
  • Increases flexibility and range of motion
  • Relieves chronic lower back pain and joint stiffness
  • Improves balance and body awareness
  • Reduces stress and supports nervous system regulation
  • Supports graceful aging and longevity at every life stage

Class Levels

A Class for Every Level

Our reformer classes run from orientation through advanced. You progress at your own pace, and your instructor lets you know when you are ready for the next level. No guessing, no pressure.

Required for all new clients. A 50-minute workout that teaches you the reformer, the springs, the straps, and our approach. Even if you have done Pilates before.
Level 1 (Foundation)
Build your foundation with core stabilization, strength, flexibility, balance, and alignment. Low impact but not easy. Instructor approval required to move to Level 2.
Level 2 (Intermediate)
More complex exercises including unilateral work, standing on the reformer, and challenging balance progressions. This is where visible results start showing consistently.
Teacher-approved. Faster-paced with whole body movement, functional patterns, challenging resistance, and complex coordination. For clients who have put in the work.

Not All Reformer Classes Are the Same

Why Art of Pilates & Wellness Is Different

Most franchise Pilates studios pack 18 to 20 reformers in a room and run classes from a screen. The instructor is outnumbered before the first spring is set. At Art of Pilates & Wellness, we built every studio around the opposite idea.

With only 9-10 reformers per studio, your instructor actually sees you. They correct your form while you are moving, not after you have already done 10 reps wrong. They learn your body, your limitations, and your goals. By your second or third class, they know exactly how to push you and where to pull back.

Our instructors have completed over 600 hours of training. That is ten times what most franchise studios require. They understand anatomy, movement principles, and how to adapt exercises for back pain, arthritis, post-injury recovery, and everything in between.

Common Questions

Reformer Pilates Classes FAQ

What is reformer Pilates?
Reformer Pilates is a full body workout performed on a sliding carriage machine called a reformer. Springs, straps, and body weight create resistance as you move through controlled exercises targeting specific muscle groups. It builds core strength, flexibility, muscle tone, and posture while remaining low impact on your joints. It supports graceful aging and longevity by strengthening the body without wearing it down.
How is reformer Pilates different from mat Pilates?
The reformer adds adjustable spring resistance to every movement, which means you can increase or decrease the challenge based on your level. Mat Pilates relies on body weight alone. The reformer also supports your body through a wider range of motion and allows exercises that are not possible on a mat. Most clients find reformer work delivers faster body sculpting and more visible results. You can learn more on our mat vs reformer Pilates page.
How many people are in a reformer Pilates class at Art of Pilates & Wellness?
Every Art of Pilates & Wellness studio has only 9-10 reformers, with classes intentionally kept small. This means your instructor can see everyone in the room, correct form in real time, and give you personal attention in every session. Most franchise studios have 18 to 20 reformers per room.
Do I need experience to take a reformer Pilates class?
No prior experience is needed. All new clients start with a $31 orientation class that teaches you how to use the reformer, the springs, and the straps. After orientation, you move into Level 1 classes and progress at your own pace with instructor guidance.
How much do reformer Pilates classes cost at Art of Pilates & Wellness?
Single classes are $40. A 5-class package is $190 and a 10-class package is $370. Monthly memberships start at $145 for 4 sessions and go up to $289 for unlimited classes. All packages work at any of our three studio locations. Visit your nearest studio page for full pricing details.
