Intermediate Pilates Classes

Level 2 reformer work. Faster pace, more complex exercises, and the kind of challenge your body is ready for. Instructor approval required.

The Next Step

What Level 2 Feels Like

You spent weeks or months in Level 1 building your foundation. You learned the reformer, your core started firing automatically, and your instructor noticed that your form was consistently clean. That is when they approved you for Level 2.

Level 2 is where things get interesting. The exercises are more complex. The transitions are faster. You are doing work that challenges your coordination, your balance, and your strength in ways Level 1 did not touch. This is where clients start seeing the most dramatic changes in their body and their confidence on the reformer.

The class is still 50 minutes. The group is still capped at 10 people. Your instructor still corrects your form in real time. The difference is the intensity and the complexity of what you are doing in that time.

What Changes in Level 2

How Intermediate Differs from Level 1

Level 1 builds the foundation. Level 2 builds on top of it. Here is what your body will be doing differently.

Unilateral Work
Level 1 uses bilateral movements where both sides of your body work together. Level 2 introduces single-leg and single-arm exercises that force each side to work independently. This exposes and corrects imbalances you did not know you had.
Standing on the Reformer
Some Level 2 exercises involve standing on the carriage or the frame while the carriage moves. This adds a balance and stability challenge that takes your core engagement to another level. Your body has to stabilize under real instability.
Faster Pace
Level 1 gives you time to think about each movement. Level 2 expects that thinking to be automatic. Transitions between exercises are quicker. The flow of the class is faster. You spend less time setting up and more time working.
More Weight Bearing on Arms
Level 2 introduces exercises where your arms support more of your body weight. Plank variations, kneeling arm work, and pushing exercises that build upper body strength and sculpt your arms and shoulders faster.
Larger Ranges of Motion
With a stronger foundation, your body can safely move through bigger ranges. Level 2 exercises take your joints further while your muscles stay in control. This builds both flexibility and strength at the same time.
Higher Spring Resistance
Your instructor increases the spring resistance for exercises where your body is ready for more. More resistance means more muscle engagement, faster toning, and a workout that keeps pushing your body to adapt.

Why Approval Matters

Instructor Approval Protects You

We require instructor approval for Level 2 because jumping ahead too soon leads to bad habits, compensating movements, and potential injury. If your core is not strong enough to stabilize you during standing work, your lower back takes over. If your form breaks down during unilateral exercises, you build imbalances instead of correcting them.

Your instructor has watched your form across dozens of Level 1 classes. They know whether your body is ready. When they approve you, it means you have earned the right to be challenged at this level, and you will get more out of every session because of it.

If you feel ready and your instructor has not mentioned Level 2 yet, ask them. They will give you honest feedback about what needs to improve and what you are already doing well. Some clients reach Level 2 in a few weeks. Others take a few months. Both timelines are normal.

Where It Leads

After Level 2

Level 2 is where most clients find their groove. The exercises are challenging enough to keep progressing, the pace feels right, and the community in a Level 2 class is tight because everyone in the room has put in the work to be there.

When your instructor sees that you have mastered Level 2, they will approve you for Level 3. That class is the most challenging we offer. Not everyone pursues it, and there is no pressure to. Many clients stay at Level 2 for years and continue getting stronger, more toned, and more confident in their body.

If you want to supplement your group classes with focused one-on-one work, private sessions are a great way to work on specific weaknesses or accelerate your path to Level 3.

Common Questions

Intermediate Pilates Classes FAQ

What is a Level 2 Pilates class?
Level 2 is our intermediate class for clients who have mastered the fundamentals in Level 1 and been approved by their instructor to progress. The pace is faster, the exercises are more complex, and you will do unilateral work, standing exercises on the reformer, and challenging balance progressions.
How do I know when I am ready for Level 2?
Your Level 1 instructor will tell you when you are ready. They are watching your form, your core engagement, and your body awareness in every class. When your foundation is solid and your body can handle more complex movements safely, they will approve you.
Do I need instructor approval to take a Level 2 class?
Yes. Instructor approval is required for all Level 2 classes. Our instructors approve you when your body is genuinely ready for the increased complexity and pace. This protects you from injury and makes sure you get the most out of every session.
What is different about Level 2 compared to Level 1?
Level 1 focuses on bilateral movements and foundational principles. Level 2 layers in unilateral work, standing on the reformer, more weight bearing on arms, larger ranges of motion, and faster transitions. The intensity and complexity both increase.
Can I still take Level 1 classes after being approved for Level 2?
Yes. Many clients mix Level 1 and Level 2 in their weekly schedule. Level 1 reinforces your fundamentals and gives your body a lighter session between more intense Level 2 classes. There is no rule that says you can only take one level.
